President Obama’s Inner Liberal Takes Charge
President Obama’s Chief of Staff, in a now-infamous statement, said “Never allow a crisis to go to waste.” While this notable comment can be dismissed as political posturing, one wonders if candidate Obama would be president today if he had been up-front and honest with the American people. Would the voters have chosen Obama if they knew he would:
- Raise the federal income tax past 40% (even though so many of his nominees haven’t felt the need to fully pay their taxes)?
- Borrow over a trillion dollars for a “stimulus” that won’t stimulate the economy?
- Hurt private charities that do so much to help the needy while directing more money to the government by eliminating deductions for charitable donations?
- Allow Congress to tax your health benefits, even though Obama called it “the largest middle-class tax increase in history” on the campaign trail?
The Obama Administration is not a “post-partisan technocracy.” From the president on down, it is filled with old-fashioned, tax-and-spend liberals who want to expand government programs, grab more money from the taxpayers, and redistribute wealth to the groups it considers worthy. It is not hyperbole to say Obama wants to make our country more like a European social welfare state. As he raises tax rates, borrows against our future and plans for a massive, government-run health care system, the rhetoric and promises of Obama’s campaign seem like distant memories.
Sincerely,
Chairman Luke Esser
P.S. GO HUSKIES!!!! And GO ZAGS!!!! By the way, Barack Obama has predicted that the Huskies will stumble and fall this weekend. But bear in mind that he also talked about the “57 states” he visited on the campaign trail.
More Obama Bonuses For Failed Executives
While the scandal over government-funded bonuses for AIG executives continues to explode, word now comes that President Obama’s buddies at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac plan to give themselves bonuses of up to $611,000 apiece. Thank goodness we have a chance to “stimulate” the geniuses who ran those two entities into bankruptcy. Overall, the Obama Administration plans to spend another $1 trillion to buy up more bad mortgages and pump more money into Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It is more vital than ever that we have a healthy, active Republican Party to keep this administration accountable, and that you and millions like you join us in opposing the higher taxes and profligate spending of Team Obama.
Olympia “numbers” just keep getting worse
Gov. Gregoire faces some ugly math as Olympia grapples with an $8 billion deficit (at last count). The governor, waiting for the next revenue forecasts, said “I think we’ll be getting more bad news. I think we’ll be getting bad news in June. I think we’ll be getting bad news in September.” Adding to the unflattering statistics, the state unemployment rate now tops 8.4%. To put it in perspective:
- Just one year ago the unemployment rate was at 4.7%.
- The unemployment rate is at its highest level since 1985.
- Washington’s unemployment rate is higher than the national rate.
- The 330,000 unemployed workers in this state is the highest number in our history.
The truth is that state government will have more money to spend in the next budget than in the current budget. That hasn’t stopped Democrat leaders in Olympia from planning to implement their predictable answer to any budget question: a tax increase. The Washington State Republican Party has made it our No. 1 priority to stop any tax increase that the Democrats might propose, but we’ll need your help to be victorious.
“Stand Up For Marriage” Rally In Olympia TODAY (Thursday)
Faith leaders and concerned citizens from around the state are planning a “Stand Up For Marriage” rally at the State Capitol TODAY. Democrat leaders in Olympia are pushing through the “just short of gay marriage bill,” and defenders of traditional marriage are doing everything they can to stop it. Participants will gather for a rally on the capitol steps and hand-deliver letters to their legislators supporting the Defense of Marriage Act. More information can be found by clicking here.
Support For Congressional Democrats Dwindling
As the Democrats unveil ever-more ambitious plans to spend your money and raise your taxes, their support is slipping among the voters. In a “generic ballot” poll, where voters choose whether they prefer Republicans or Democrats to lead Congress, Republicans have bounced back to take a small lead in support. Having Congress governed by tax hikers has reminded voters why Republicans should control fiscal policy in this country. We need to build on this momentum as we head into the 2010 elections!
